Alex Reynolds lies unconscious in ring as AEW Dynamite main event match controversially continues

Alex Reynolds was controversially left lying in the ring unconscious while an AEW Dynamite main event match continued.

The Young Bucks defeated Reynolds and John Silver, The Butcher and The Blade and Private Party on Wednesday to earn a title shot against FTR at Full Gear next month.

Listen, I understand there’s a lot of moving parts and it’s live TV etc, but there’s no ways Alex Reynolds should have been able to lay out cold in the ring for that long. pic.twitter.com/2KrNqaBlqZ

But the main event was marred as Reynolds was out cold after being on the end of a brutal-looking leg drop.

The Dark Order member was left unattended in the ring for around a minute as The Young Bucks eventually picked up the victory.

Reynolds was checked on by executive vice-president Cody Rhodes outside the ring after the match and was able to make his own way backstage.

PWInsider say Reynolds was in a better state backstage and has not suffered any long-term issues.

The incident comes after AEW were criticised for failing to end a match between Matt Hardy and Sammy Guevara when the veteran wrestler suffered a concussion at last month’s All Out pay-per-view.

Hardy was speared off a scissor lift and into a table as he hit his head on the concrete ground.

A doctor checked up on Hardy, but the match was then allowed to conclude.

Explaining the decision to continue the match, AEW president Tony Khan said: "What had happened was Matt had taken a fall in the match and I stopped the match, paused the match, and sent the doctor to check on him.

“I was concerned that Matt could be hurt. I rang the bell to pause the match. When the doctor checked him, he passed him and cleared him on the concussion protocol.

“He checked with Matt and then Matt came back after and passed the concussion protocol and he’s doing okay. I spoke with him after the match and talked to him again just now.

“He went, as a precaution, to the hospital to get some tests and check out that he’s okay, but it looks like he is okay and that’s why the doctor cleared him to continue.”
