Five Reasons Kanye Wests Clothing Line is Better than Sways

"Runaway" New York Premiere

Last fall, Kanye West sat down for an interview with MTV Newscaster and radio show host, Sway.  During the now infamous interview, which sparked West’s “you ain’t got the answers” rant, the two men discussed Kanye’s desire to become more involved in the clothing industry. After West shared that that he had lost several million of his own dollars trying to “empower” himself by purrsuing his fashion interests, Sway, who apparently has a clothing line of his own, attempted to relate to West’s struggle.  However, Kanye who clearly was not feeling the comparison,  argued that “we don’t know” the name of Sway’s clothing line, and even if we did, it wouldn’t matter because “it ain’t Ralph though…it ain’t Ralph [Lauren] level.”  While Kanye’s remarks were harsh and uncalled for, they certainly weren’t surprising, especially coming from him.  However, West who aspires to be great at everything he does, probably did not appreciate Sway’s comparison to his own “smaller” clothing line.  Now, a little over a year later, Kanye has inked a new deal with Adidas  and debuted a new clothing collection in partnership with French clothing brand A.P.C-meanwhile, no one still knows what Sway’s clothing line is called.  Here are five reasons why Kanye West’s clothing line is better than Sway’s.

5. Kanye West’s fans will buy anything he puts out.

Last year, Kanye West released “hip-hop” t-shirts that sold for $120 each.  The shirts, which were nothing more than plain white-shirts, sold out instantly.

4. Kanye West has been acknowledged by Ralph Lauren.

Kanye’s comments during his interview with Sway apparently made it from his lips to Ralph Lauren’s ears.  After hearing what Kanye had to say, Mr. Lauren had some words of his own: “That’s very cool. Well, that’s great. If I were to cater to Kanye, he would know that I’m catering to him. The fact that I make what I make-he gets it. He gets the quality and he respects it. And I think that’s the key, why I work all the time is to do that. That’s the fun.”  While Ralph Lauren didn’t implicitly state that he’d like to work with Kanye, the fact that he believes that the two of them share a vision could mean that there is some hope in the future.

3. Kanye was voted one of the best dressed men by GQ Magazine.

Last year GQ Magazine voted Kanye West within the top 10 on their best dressed men’s list.  Kanye’s knack for style along with his work ethic and natural creativity give him a skill set that allows him to create unique designs.

2. Before he was a rapper and producer, Kanye West as an artist.

Kanye, who has been creating art all of his life, says that he originally wanted to be an artist who impacted the world.  After attending art schools since the age of five, Kanye received a scholarship to American Academy of Art, where he attended for a short while.

1. “These Yeezys jumped over the Jumpman”

In 2009 Kanye teamed up with Nike to release his Air Yeezy sneakers.  The shoes, which were originally priced at $215, sold out quickly.  Since then, Kanye and Nike have released the Air Yeezy 2s and the Red Octobers, with the latter selling out in seconds.
