Roma family mourned after Warrego Highway fatal crash kills three

Friends of a Western Downs family killed in a fatal crash west of Brisbane are in shock after the horrific collision claimed the couple and their baby.

Roma residents Jake Pearce, Katy Tattam and their one-year-old daughter Charlie, were killed when their sedan struck two trucks on the Oakey Creek Bridge on the Warrego Highway on Tuesday.

Police said on Tuesday the eastbound car was hit first by a truck being driven in the opposite direction, then was hit by a second, which was travelling east.

“The sedan … sustained significant damage in the collision,” police said.

A fourth person in the sedan, a 36-year-old passenger, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

He is helping police with inquiries.

Mr Pearce’s eldest daughter, Tayla, has started a GoFundMe to help raise money for the three funerals.

“Today was very unfortunate, I lost my dad and little sister in a three-vehicle accident outside Toowoomba,” she wrote.

Friends and family took to social media to mourn the trio.

“You) all will be sadly missed, now there’s an empty place in my heart my best mate’s gone (but) you maybe gone but never forgotten,” one friend wrote.

“I’m going to be lost without (you) in my life now.”

Another wrote they were “so heartbroken”.

Ms Tattam’s cousin also gave tribute to her to the family stating she was going to “miss them so much”.

The driver of the westbound truck, a 20-year-old Kearneys Spring man, was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the eastbound truck, a 55-year-old Brendale man, was not physically injured and is assisting police with inquiries.

The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate the circumstances of the collision and has appealed for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision or CCTV of the crash, or the moments leading up, to it to come forward
