It was her friends who introduced her to tennis at her local courts when she was just 9.

Yanina sadly lost her mother at an early age.

She was named after Argentine professional football player and manager Diego Maradona‘s youngest daughter Gianinna.

In 2009, Yanina was awarded the title of “Most Improved Player” by the WTA. Later, in June 2011, she was named “30 Legends of Women’s Tennis: Past, Present and Future” by Time magazine.
